Yes, Wren! Naomi Shihab Nye is a beloved poet to me, too! I always say, if there was ever a poem I wish I had written, “Kindness” is the one. ❤️

How wonderful memorizing this poem. It’s one of my favorites. I haven’t memorized a whole poem since high school—Jabberwocky. Everyone in my class had to stand before the class and share. We had an amazing teacher that somehow could get everyone to enjoy participating.

Oh I love that story, Jude! Yes! I think I had to memorize Jabberwocky, too, at some point. It didn't exactly stick, as good as it is, but "Kindness" has! I'm so glad this is a favorite poem of yours, too! It's a keeper, to be sure. Sending you hugs, friend. ❤️

The poem hit at exactly the time I needed it. And reading your words about memorizing poetry took me back to my childhood when I managed to pull a failing grade up to an A by memorizing and reciting a lengthy poem in front of the entire class. I don’t remember what it was but I remember the look of surprise and delight on my teachers face as I nailed each line. No small thing for the scared shy child I was. Thank you for this gift.
